Updating January 2007
We are currently going through an update from version from 1.5 to 1.6. This update will resolve some of the technical issues that users are experiencing in getting the program up and running and prepare your computer for future updates. The update is a full install and may be checked out from the library. If you have not completed a request form, please complete that step first. The program still has areas with glitches which are not corrected by this update. We are hoping a patch will soon be released with additional fixes - maybe by the end of January.
Uninstall old version
You can uninstall before you begin (Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs) or, as
you begin the install, the software will uninstall the old version. There is one
folder the uninstall process does not remove - Results Manager on the C drive.
If the program has been working, it should be okay to leave this folder. If the
program has not been running, you will want to delete the Results Manager folder
before installing the new version.
Check Java - better safe than sorry
I'm finding that some computers have an older version of Java that isn't
updating like it should or more than one version of Java. If you will look in
Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and scroll down to the "J's" you may see Java
or JSE or J2SE Runtime Environment - all that is Java. If you have two you
definitely need to get rid of at least one of them and if you have one that is
older than version 1.4 you will need to uninstall that. You can download the
latest Java ( http://www.java.com/en/ )
which is version 1.5_10 (January 2007) and SuccessMaker 1.6 will use that when
it installs or you can install from the SuccessMaker CD and it will put Java 1.4
on your computer.
Installation
The install will not start by itself. Open My Computer and your CD drive. Double
click on the Setup icon. If you have not uninstalled the old version, it will
ask you to complete this step first and then you will need to start this process
again. Click here for installation instructions with
pictures.
