Installation Instructions (Windows)

Note: Check Java - better safe than sorry
I'm finding that some computers have an older version of Java that isn't updating like it should or more than one version of Java. If you will look in Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and scroll down to the "J's" you may see Java or JSE or J2SE Runtime Environment - all that is Java. If you have two you definitely need to get rid of at least one of them and if you have one that is older than version 1.4 you will need to uninstall that. You can download the latest Java ( http://www.java.com/en/ ) which is version 1.5_10 (January 2007) and SuccessMaker 1.6 will use that when it installs or you can install from the SuccessMaker CD and it will put Java 1.4 on your computer.

Before students can begin working on SuccessMaker @ Home, the Courseware Setup CD must be installed. You may also need to install Internet Explorer if your computer does not already have it installed. (Internet Explorer version 5.5 or higher is required.) To install the courseware:

1.       Insert the Courseware Setup CD into the CD drive of the computer.

2.       Double-click the My Computer icon on your desktop.

3.       Double-click the CD-ROM drive icon.

4.       Double-click the Setup icon. It looks like a blue square with little arrows through it.

            The Install Shield Wizard will begin.

5.       Accept the defaults for installation. When prompted for running the program with CD or DVD, select CD.

6.   After the Install Shiled Wizard is finished, repeat the same directions for the second CD.

7.  When the second CD finishes, install the third CD. This is an update to the second CD. Double click on the CD-ROM icon and then you will double-click on an icon that looks like the one pictured in step 4 but its' name is SMeUSPMain. When installation begins you will click Next, Yes, Next, and Finish.

8.  Now you can access the SuccessMaker program through your school’s SuccessMaker Internet Web site.

Installation Instructions (Macintosh)

Before students can begin working on SuccessMaker @ Home, the Courseware Setup CD must be installed. You may also need to install Internet Explorer and QuickTime if your computer does not already have them installed. (Internet Explorer version 5.5 or higher and QuickTime v5 or higher are required. To install the courseware:

1. Insert the Courseware Setup CD into the computer.
2. Double-click the CD icon on your desktop.

3. Double-click the Setup icon.

5. Click Continue.

6. Select CD, and then click Okay.

7. Click Quit.
